22 Feb 2007  |  A New Spin-out for Glasgow

For over two years daVinci Ventures has been working with leading academics in bioelectronics and microelectronics at Glasgow University on the commercialisation of a revolutionary diagnostic device. During that time daVinci Ventures has been producing the technical and business plans, recruiting the founding team and engaging with leading clinicians in the UK. That work has now resulted in the successful launch a new spin-out company, Wireless bioDevices.

Wireless bioDevices specialises in integrating biosensors and wireless technology into components that serve the rapidly expanding market for remote diagnostics. The company’s first product will be a diagnostic pill that detects early signs of bowel cancer. The electronic pill will take measurements as it passes through the body, transmitting the data via a wireless link to a small unit attached externally to the patient. Potentially the device could be used to detect a wide range of medically important markers.

Wireless bioDevices is the first to receive investment from the IP Group under its recently announced partnership with the University. Nick Wood of daVinci Ventures will be driving the business as interim CEO.
